Sherlock's Substance: Why Shot Selection is More than a Matter of Style

The Great Game and The Empty Hearse were both written by Mark Gatiss and shot by the same Director of Photography (Steve Lawes), but they had different Directors. Paul McGuigan directed TGG while Jeremy Lovering directed TEH. I’m going to explore two scenes, one from each episode, that parallel one other. They’re both set in 221B and both are conversations between sibling rivals, Sherlock and Mycroft.
